The recent escalation of military actions in Syria leaves the prospects of settlement of the crisis uncertain.

Expert of Arab studies Sargis Grigoryan says the Geneva II conference on Syria will be of interim nature, as there are many discrepancies, which even prevented the determination of the date of the conference.

According to him, the Russian and American goals of holding the conference are also problematic.

Sargis Grigoryan believes there are two ways to solve the Syria issue peacefully: disarmament of rebels and the suspension of financing for rebels. These are the only avenues that could lead to peace, he says.
