Europe Day marked by information and cultural events in Armenia

An open-air celebration of the Europe Day in Armenia will take place  on 25 May on Northern Avenue. Europe Day in Armenia has become an annual multi-layer event, representing European cultural diversity and showcasing EU-Armenia cooperation. This year Europe Day events will also take place in Gyumri on 26 May.

The official opening of the Europe Day Information Fair in Yerevan will take place at 16:00, on Northern Avenue. Around 70 EU-funded projects will present their efforts in diverse areas such as education, poverty reduction, trade, youth, culture, environment and many other areas.

“Europe Day is a special occasion for the European Union. It marks the beginning of European integration, which was prompted by one potent overarching goal – to ensure peace and stability in Europe. Over the years, Europe Day has become a symbol of peace, unity and common European values. Europe Day is celebrated also in Armenia, and we hope that all participants of this year’s events will learn more about the EU and EU-Armenia cooperation”, says the Head of EU Delegation Traian Hristea.

The Europe Day Information Fair will be accompanied by cultural activities, workshops, music and dance representing Greece, Spain, France, Poland, Germany, Romania, United Kingdom and Italy.   Early in the day, pre-registered participants will discuss various topics of interest at the Round Table discussion with EU Member State Ambassadors before the start of the Information Fair. The EU-bus of the EU Centre, will also feature at the Information Fair, which will be followed by an information tour in different communities of Armenia.

The Europe Day celebration will culminate with an eclectic concert at 20:00, during which local musicians and featured guests from Germany and Romania will play Balkan music. The Head of the EU Delegation will announce the winner of this year’s Youth Contest “My Scrapbook of Change,” who will receive a ticket to Europe.

Other public festivities start earlier this week with an Overnight Performance dedicated to Europe Day at 20:00 on 24 May at Northern Avenue. Six artists will create artwork reflecting their perception of European values. The animation created earlier during the Europe Day arts master class will be screened during this event. In addition, European literature readings will take place from 23-25 May at the EU Centre and metro stations in Yerevan.
