The Georgian court has reconsidered Armenian activist Vahagn Chakhalyan’s sentence and has released him from prison.
Chakhalyan gave an interview to Georgian media and headed for Tbilisi to meet with Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan. After the meeting he will return to Akhlkalak.
Chakhalyan was arrested by Georgian authorities on July 21, 2008. He was given a 10-year sentence for “organization of large-scale events, public disturbance, hooliganism and illegal possession of weapons.”
