Artsakh FM, Armenia’s Human Rights Defender to headline keynote feature in Australian commemoration of Armenian Genocide

Australia’s National Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, which will be live streamed on Friday 23rd April 7:30pm (AEST), will include a special keynote feature highlighting how the 2020 Artsakh War exposed the reemergence of the ideology that motivated the Armenian Genocide, announced the organizing Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee, reports the Armenian National Committee of Australia.

Foreign Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, His Excellency Davit Babayan and the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Arman Tatoyan will star in the keynote feature, which unveils how Pan-Turkism – which motivated the Ottoman Government of 1915 to commit the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek Genocides – have resurfaced today in a modern form.

Babayan is a historical scientist among the generation tasked with assisting their native Artsakh on its road to recovery following Azerbaijan’s attacks on the Armenian homeland, and he provides an invaluable insight into the present situation following the genocidal policies that resulted in full-scale war from 27 September 2020.

Tatoyan has been a foundational voice in raising awareness and seeking justice for the war crimes committed during the Artsakh War, along with the ongoing issues related to Armenian prisoners of war and other international law abuses committed by Azerbaijan throughout and since their occupation of indigenous Armenian lands.

The keynote feature will highlight how Armenians continue to witness the consequences of such crimes against humanity, which were left unrecognized and unpunished. Moreover, it will delve into how, once again, Armenians were forcibly removed from their ancestral homes when Turkey and Azerbaijan’s neo-Ottoman leaders launched another attempt to ethnically cleanse the Armenians of the Republic of Artsakh.

It will shine a light on how the perpetrators of these crimes continue to deny and distort history and when the truth is reimagined, it can commit the same heinous realities that it once perpetuated.

The Live Stream commemoration will premiere on Friday 23rd April 2021 on Facebook and YouTube from 7:30pm (Australian Eastern Time). There will be a special encore live stream the following evening, on Saturday 24th April 2021, 7:30pm (AEST). The broadcasts will be delivered through the YouTube channel of Australia Live by Armenia TV and the Facebook pages of Armenia Media and all major Armenian-Australian organizations.

The member organizations of the organizing Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee are the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, the Armenian General Benevolent Union, Armenian Missionary Association of Australia Hamazkaine, Nor Serount, Homenetmen, Tekeyan, Armenian Relief Society, Dkhrouni, AGBU Youth and the Armenian Youth Federation, in addition to Sahagian Sporting Club in Victoria and the Armenian National Committee of Australia Head Office and Branches in Melbourne, Perth and Canberra.
