Armenia’s football chief resigns

Artur Vanetsyan has quit as President of the Football Federation of Armenia.

“The executive board of the Football Federation of Armenia has discussed and accepted my resignation,” Vanetsyan told reporters today.

A new executive board and the new President will be elected on December 23, he said.

Vanetsyan said there are no political motives behind the decision. He added that someone had to assume responsibility for the national team’s unprecedented defeat to Italy.

Armenia suffered the biggest ever defeat as Italy rounded off a perfect qualifying campaign with a 9-1 victory in a Euro 2020 qualifier on November 18.
