In 2015 France may adopt a law criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial, Bruno Le Roux says

RA President Serzh Sargsyan received the delegation led by Bruno Le Roux, the leader of the Socialist Party in the French National Assembly.

The President welcomed the guests who have arrived in Armenia on the event of the centennial of the death of major social and political activist and friend of Armenians, Jean Jaures, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

In 2015 France may adopt a law criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial, Bruno Le Roux, leader of the Socialist Party in the French National Assembly, said at a press conference in Yerevan.

Bruno Le Roux pointed out that Paris remains committed to the French President’s stand and values, which give a high priority to the events dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Bruno Le Roux expressed hope that in 2015 France will adopt a law penalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide. Everyone agrees that those who deny the fact of the Armenian Genocide should be brought to criminal responsibility, he said.

In the meantime, the politician said that this issue still remains in the legal field only and the only problem at the moment is to create a text, whose provision on criminalization of the Armenian Genocide denial does not hinder the right to freedom of expression. As soon as the text is ready, the law will be adopted, he concluded.
