According to political technologist Karen Kocharyan, the politicization of the Sochi Olympics is natural. This usually happens, when Olympic Games are hosted by superpowers.
Director of the Armenian Center for Political and International Studies Ruben Mehrabyan says the politicization of the Olympics is directly proportional to the place the host country occupies in international relations.
According to him, the fact that the leading countries of the world were not represented at the Olympics by top leaders is a manifestation of a certain attitude towards today’s Russia and its leadership.
