Protests staged in Yerevan as Putin arrives in Armenia

A number of protesters  marched through the Armenian capital Yerevan to denounce the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It follows Armenia’s decision in September to pull out of an association agreement with the EU and join the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The protesters held up banners declaring “Putin, go home,” “Sovereign Armenia,”  “No to the USSR,” etc. They demanded from the authorities to suspend the process of joining the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Police said a number of protesters were detained in the morning. Many have already been released.
