Majority of MPs refrain from voting on Karabakh recognition bill

Most MPs refused to vote on the bill on recognition of independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic today.

The bill was submitted by Zaruhi Postanjyan from the opposition Heritage Party. Only lawmakers representing the Heritage faction and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation participated in the voting. They voted 10 to 0 with one abstention.

Most lawmakers say the bill is untimely and will distort the negotiation process underway within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The bill on recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was first introduced in 2007. The Heritage Party has been periodically re-submitting the document since, with most MP refraining to participate in the voting.
