Mkhitaryan demanded €50 from Klopp

The BVB coach was quick to praise Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan after his double salvo steered Borussia to their fourth win.

Jurgen Klopp was in a jovial mood when discussing summer acquisition Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performance, after Borussia Dortmund kept up their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, according to goal.com.

The Armenian showed off his finishing prowess by netting in each half and the BVB coach is sure that his side have secured the services of a genuine goalscoring threat in the form of the former Shakhtar Donetsk player.

“Mkhitaryan is a weapon in front of goal with his shooting technique,” beamed Klopp to reporters after the final whistle.

“He had lost €50 in a bet against me. I said if he doesn’t manage to score seven goals within 30 attempts, I will get 50, however if he scores at least seven, he will get 50.

“After the match he told me he wants his money back. He will get it, I left it lying around just in case he scores.”

Mkhittaryan was in similarly high spirits himself after notching his first two goals for his new club, but admits that there is still work for Borussia to do if they are to mount a serious tilt at the Bundesliga title.

“I feel very comfortable at Dortmund and I’m very happy that I scored my first goal today,” professed the 24-year-old.

“Scoring the second one afterwards makes it even better.

“Altogether, it was a difficult match for us and we did well. However, we certainly can still improve.”

Coach Klopp agreed with those sentiments as well but added that he can’t be too critical of his side at the moment.

“Generally we have to play better football” admitted the 46-year-old.

“I’ve seen some weaknesses in our build-up play and ideally we also must defend better.

“However with 12 points out of four matches, that is moaning on a very high level.”

Dortmund now go into the international break top of the Bundesliga and two points ahead of rivals Bayern Munich.
