The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has released a statement connected with post-election developments. “We highly appreciate the sanity of our people that became the guarantee of peaceful and civilized organization and conduct of the presidential elections,” the Mother See said in a statement.
“Taking note of the reports and assessments of the Central Electoral Commission, the observation missions, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has clearly expressed its stance on the election results and deems unacceptable the attempts to make the Holy Church, the Armenian Patriarch and even the Gospel used during the presidential inauguration targets of political manipulation,” the Mother See said in a statement.
The Holy Church calls for solidarity in this period of Lent and urges to refrain from demonstration of intolerance and hatred. Also, the Mother See calls on Raffi Hovhannisyan to stop the hunger strike and chose more constructive means of struggle. “The church does not justify the hunger strike, as it poses a threat to God-given life,” the statement reads.
