It was only supposed to stand for 20 years but on Monday 31 March the most famous Paris landmark, the EiffelTower, celebrates its 125th birthday, France 24 reports.
It was on this day in the year 1889 that the tower welcomed its first visitors and, despite early objections by some Paris residents, it has since become one of the world’s most recognizable monuments and a much-loved symbol of France’s capital.
An estimated 250 million people have visited the tower since it first opened, and it still attracts seven million people from around the world every year.
