NATO welcomes joint statement by Armenia and Azerbaijan

NATO Special Representative for the South Caucasus Javier Colomina has welcomed the joint statement by Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“I welcome the joint statement by Armenia and Azerbaijan announcing the mutual release of detainees, other confidence building measures and a clear commitment to reach a long awaited peace deal,” he said in a post on X.

“NATO strongly supports these efforts and the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Colomina added.

In a joint statement the two countries reconfirmed their intention to normalize relations and to reach the peace treaty on the basis of respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Driven by the values of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, the Republic of Azerbaijan releases 32 Armenian military servicemen. In its turn, driven by the values of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, the Republic of Armenia releases 2 Azerbaijani military servicemen.
