Armenian film director and artist Sergei Parajanov’s letters sent from exile (1974-1978) will be auctioned off at 12th Chair (12-й стул) auction house in Moscow.
These are letters to his sister and nephew, as well as drawings and photographs of Parajanov. The director was serving a term in the most difficult conditions of a high security camp.
In letters to his family, Parajanov writes about hunger and that if he tries to write down something from his ideas, they can add a term. One letter induces a self-portrait postcard behind barbed wire; there is a self-portrait in the prison padded jacket.
The bidding price for each letter will start from RUB 325 thousand (about $5,000).
