Armenia, Georgia agree to strengthen bilateral support on international platforms

Relations with Georgia are of particular importance to Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a joint press conference with visiting Georgian Prime Minister Georgi Gakharia.

“It was no coincidence that as Prime Minister I made my first outgoing visit to Georgia. And I am glad that the dynamics of our contacts, the level of trust indicate that Georgia also attaches particular importance to its relations with Armenia,” Pashinyan stated.

The Prime Minister hailed the talks with his Georgian counterpart, which, he said, “reconfirmed the high level of relations and the reciprocal willingness to boost their development.”

During a meeting in Yerevan the parties attached importance to the implementation of transport and energy programs from the perspectives of development of bilateral economic relations and ensuring regional stability.

“One of the most important priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy is to create an atmosphere of regional peace and security. In this regard, we are convinced that the continued development of the Armenian-Georgian relations should be free from any external factors,” the Armenian Prime Minister said.

The parties also referred to regional conflicts, emphasizing the importance of solving them exceptionally in a peaceful way in line with the principles of international law.

“Each conflict is unique, and solutions must stem from their essence,” Nikol Pashinyan stated.

The Prime Ministers of the two countries also agreed to maintain balanced stance on sensitive issues for each other.

The Georgian Prime Minister, in turn, stressed the centuries-old relations between two countries, and voiced confidence that the friendship could be further deepened and expanded.

“We talked about transport, discussed issues of energy cooperation, outlined a continuous way of cooperation in the field of culture,” he added.

“We also referred to regional issues and we agree that peace and stability in the region are the most important for the development of economy and the wellbeing of the two peoples,” Georgi Gakharia said.

“Armenia supports our territorial integrity, which is very important for us and we are thankful. I think we should maintain this positive momentum and strengthen each other’s support on the international platforms,” he continued.

He hopes today’s meeting will be another step forward in deepening the cooperation between our two countries.
