Turkey to join International Astronomical Union’s Armenia-based regional center.

Turkey will officially join the Armenia-based  Astronomy for Development (OAD) Regional Office of the International Astronomical Union’s (IAU).

Astrologist, representative of the Turkish Astronomical Society Sinan Alis will visit Armenia to sign the agreement on November 17.

The International Astronomical Union opened a regional office in Armenia in 2015. The Office is located at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences.

The IAU is an international astronomical organization that brings together more than 10 000 professional astronomers from almost 100 countries. Its mission is to promote and safeguard the science of astronomy in all its aspects through international cooperation.

The IAU also serves as the internationally recognized authority for assigning designations to celestial bodies and the surface features on them. Founded in 1919, the IAU is the world’s largest professional body for astronomers.
