Fire at Nairit plant: No injuries reported

16:05 The smoke from fire at Nairit Plant is not dangerous, but residents of nearby buildings are advised to keep windows closed, Head of the Yerevan Rescue Service Mushegh Ghazaryan told Public Radio of Armenia.

He said no one has suffered as a result of the accident.

14: 40 While there has been no official confirmation of the causes of fire that broke out at Nairit chemical plant in Yerevan, different versions are being suggested. .

About 350 tons of ethanol lacquer are burning at Nairit, a source at the plant told Public Radio of Armenia.

Hardened ethanol lacquer, which is actually waste material, is kept in concrete containers.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out as a result of detonation caused by a low-flying  plane.

13:35 Huge fire has broken out in Nairit Plant in Armenia’s capital Yerevan. A source at the plant confirmed the news to Public Radio of Armenia.

Smoke can be seen at a distance of several kilometers. Witnesses say the fire was preceded by blasts.

Fire engines, Police and ambulances are currently working at the scene.

No casualties are reported. Details to follow.
