Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s football shone last year in the Europa League, Marca writes. The paper quotes Manchester United manages Jose Mourinho as saying “He gives us different things, magic. He’s playing really well.”
The Armenian midfielder landed in 2016 at Old Trafford and won three titles (Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League) in England. The former Dortmund player is the main candidate for Player of the Year of Europa League he conquered with the ‘red devils’. But he wants more.
“His 11 goals and five assists last season made him the second top United player only behind Ibrahimovic. Europa League is where Mkhitaryan showed his best level: he scored six key goals for United to beat Saint-Etienne, Rostov, Anderlecht … and put the cherry in the final against Ajax with an acrobatic goal,” the paper writes.
“Mkhitaryan put Armenia on the map with his football. He became the first player in his country to win a major continental trophy. With 18 titles behind him in four countries (Armenia, Ukraine, Germany and England), Mkhytarian is preparing for a season in which he will be important in a Manchester United of Mourinho who has already signed Lukaku and Lindelöf this year. He will play the Champions League after shining in the Europa League and become a candidate for the Continental Tournament of the Year. His numbers put him on the pole to win the award,” Marca writes.
