Cyprus, Armenia launch joint stamp commemorating Genocide centennial

A joint Cyprus-Armenia stamp commemorating 100 years since the Armenian Genocide was simultaneously launched today by Haypost and the Cyprus Post as part of a series of events to mark the anniversary.
It depicts the well-known but closed, Armenian educational institute, the Melkonian in Nicosia. The school originally functioned as an orphanage for children who survived the genocide and managed to make it to Cyprus.
During the 80 years of its history, the institution played a huge role in maintaining the Armenian national identity.
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said at the cancellation ceremony that “it’s an opportunity to pay tribute to one of the outstanding educational establishments in the Armenian Diaspora.”
