President of the Republic of Armenia, President of the Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan was present today at the Tashir International Chess Tournament in memory of Tigran Petrosian, the 9th World Chess Champion.
Serzh Sargsyan, who is the president of the organizing committee of the memorial tournament, welcomed the world’s strongest GMs participating in the tournament and the fans watching the games at Moscow’s Novotel hotel.
He wished success to the tournament and made the first move for Armenian Grand Master Levon Aronian.
The tournament has been organized by Tashir Group Company and the Russian Chess Federation.
An agreement was signed between the Chess Federations of Armenia and Russia, under which the strongest team of Armenian schoolchildren will participate in the renowned “Belaya Ladya” (White Rook) tournament.
