Artak Zakaryan: Opening of Abkhazian Railway of strategic importance to Armenia

The negotiations on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict are under way within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, and settlement of the issue has been and remains a priority for our country, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan said at the joint sitting of the Armenian National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Communications with Nationals.

“Being Russia’s strategic and strategic-political partner, Armenia, is interested in the success of official Moscow’s foreign policy initiatives, the development and strengthening of the Russian economy and the reinforcement of Russia’s international standing,” Zakaryan said.

Speaking about Armenia’s participation in Eurasian integration, he said it’s first of all connected with the aspiration to use new resources – development of the state, establishment of peace in the region and raise of the level of citizens’ wellbeing.

According to Artak Zakaryan, re-opening of the Abkhazian railway is of strategic importance to Armenia. “That is why we’re closely following the regional and global processes, particularly the impressing indices of commodity turnover between Customs Union member states.
