President of the Football Federation of Armenia Ruben Hayrapetyan dismissed the rumors about his possible resignation. However, he said ready to resign should fans and players demand.
The football chief said overconfidence was to blame for the 1-0 home defeat against Malta.
“In the match against Malta they underestimated the abilities of the rival,” Hayrapetyan said, adding that the team did all it could in the match against Denmark. He said, however, it was not “heroism.”
Vardan Minasyan will retain his position as head coach of the national team for another five years, Ruben Hayrapetyan said.
“I want to see the Armenian national team in the finals of the European or World Cup. I’ll leave my post after this goal is achieved,” Hayrapetyan said.
