The Pasadena Armenian Genocide Memorial Committee announced that the Committee received 17 design proposals for the Armenian Genocide Memorial project proposed to be located in Memorial Park in the City of Pasadena. Six of the design proposals are from students at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design, Asbarez reports.
The Committee has formed an independent panel of three distinguished professional judges to review and rank all 17 design proposals. The review panel’s written recommendations will be forwarded to the Board which will make the final selection. The independent panel met on December 1 to begin the review process.
One of the judges was Stefanos Polyzoides, a principal of Moule & Polyzoides, Architects and Urbanists. Polyzoides’ distinguished career covers the areas of architectural and urban design education, design and theory. He is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Southern California and has been a Visiting Professor at several schools including Princeton University, where he was on the Advisory Board of the School of Architecture from 1983-1990.
His recent design experience includes major urban design projects, such as the Pasadena Civic Center/Midtown Urban Design Program; the San Gabriel Valley Urban Design Plan for seven cities in the San Gabriel Valley; the 1,000-acre Playa Vista New Town; the Los Angeles Downtown Strategic Plan; the Beverly Hills Downtown Enhancement Plan; and the Glendale Town Center for Glendale, California.
