The U.S. has proposed to work on a big peace agreement: Azerbaijani FM

During the recent meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents as part of the NATO Summit in Wales, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry viewed the possibility of taking new steps towards the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a joint press conference with his Moldovan counterpart Natalia Gherman.

He noted at the meeting that it is high time to start working on a big peace agreement.

“Azerbaijan’s position is that a meeting should not be held for the sake of meeting and specific issues should be discussed. The biggest problem is the presence of the Armenian troops in the Azerbaijani territories. They should withdraw from the occupied territories, such a situation is unacceptable for Azerbaijan,” Mammadyarov said.

The minister said the U.S. specifically proposed to work on a big peace agreement.

“Probably, the U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick will visit the region this month and a meeting at the level of foreign ministers will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York,” he said.
