Senator Portman co-sponsors resolution recognizing Armenian Genocide

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) announced his support for the Senate resolution expressing that it is the policy of the United States to recognize and commemorate the Armenian Genocide.

“I am proud to join my Senate colleagues in cosponsoring a bipartisan resolution recognizing and commemorating the memory of the Armenian genocide,” Senator Portman said in a statement.

“As the large, vibrant and patriotic Armenian community in Ohio will tell you we must never forget the atrocities of the Armenian genocide,” he added,

“This resolution is not only about recognizing the problems and tragedies of the past, but it is also a reminder that we must stand strong and resist any and all persecution of minority populations,” the Senator concluded.

On the eve, Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) called for unanimous adoption of S.Res150, a move blocked by a single Senator, David Purdue (R-GA).
