The number of universities and other higher education institutions applicants in Armenia has decreased. According to the data of the RA Ministry of Education and Science, 16 304 people entered the universities in 2013, while only 10 865 entered in 2016.
The 2017 enrolment has not yet been completed but according to the number of applications, the situation raises concern, experts say. Many vacant places remain in the system of fee-based training.
Migration is considered to be one of the main causes of this situation. Another problem is that only students who studied in 11-year system have finished schools this year. Those who study in 12-year system will finish schools only next year.
