Ukraine talks last through the night

The Russian and Ukrainian presidents have been meeting all night in Belarus to try to secure a peace deal, the BBC reports.

Few details have emerged about their four-way meeting with the leaders of France and Germany. But a Ukrainian presidential aide posted on Facebook that there was a battle of nerves.

Before the talks began, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said achieving a ceasefire was essential.

The marathon talks in the Normandy format which have lasted for over 12 hours may end with the signing of a document on the Ukrainian crisis settlement, a diplomatic source close to the Minsk negotiations said on Thursday, according to TASS.

“No matter how this document will be called — a declaration or a statement, but it is planned that it will envisage particular measures on settling the situation, namely 12 or 13 points,” the source told TASS.
