Yerevan to host International Christmas Bazaar on December 6

The International Women’s Association of Yerevan – IWAY – will host its annual International Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, 6th December 2014 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Artist Union, Abovyan 16. This event will help IWAY to raise funds and support a programme aimed at improving the lives of women and their families in Goris region. The main aim of the project is to provide women with the opportunity to be financially sustainable through creation of new jobs at a renovated wool
studio in Shinuhayer Village.

IWAY will buy 20 Spinning Wheels and a group of women will be trained to spin wool and use it to make carpets and rugs to be sold to interested clients. “The funds will allow 20 unemployed women to work and to help their families,” said Ella Barker IWAY’s President. “We believe that this opportunity will not only provide work for these unemployed women but also help the communities in the region in general.”

As part of the Bazaar activities, there will be a corner for children where they can play games, watch cartoons and meet Santa.

At this year’s Bazaar lots of home-made handicrafts, sweets and treats made and baked by IWAY members will be sold.

IWAY singing group will perform Christmas carols at the Bazaar along with other guest such as Cico&Friends Jazz band, QSI children choir and others still to be confirmed.

Several famous Armenian artists will support us in raising funds this year. These well-known artists have agreed to display their artwork at the Bazaar and have agreed to donate a certain proportion of the proceeds of their sales to IWAY for philanthropic projects.

A number of embassies will participate in the  event this year and help with promotion and fund-raising. Currently 10 embassies have confirmed their participation: Argentina, Brazil, Swiss, Germany, Russia, Lithuania, UK, Iran, Turkmenistan, and China.
