Queen Elizabeth II in hospital with stomach bug

British Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalized Sunday with symptoms of gastroenteritis, British media reported citing Buckingham Palace.

The hospitalization is a precaution while the 86-year-old monarch is assessed for the symptoms, the BBC quoted Buckingham Palace as saying.

A palace spokesman said the Queen was taken to King Edward VII Hospital in London on Sunday afternoon. She is in “good spirits,” the palace said.

All official engagements for this week will be postponed or canceled.

The British broadcaster said the Queen will be in hospital for about two days. She was last hospitalized 10 years ago for a minor knee operation.
