Sergey Parajanov would turn 89 today

Famous film director Sergey Parajanov would turn 89 today. He was born and raised in Tbilisi. Even twenty years after his death, people from different countries of the world visit Parajanov’s  house.

The house at 10, Kote Meskhe Street in central Tbilisi is known to many. People from all over the world come here to shoot a film about Parajanov and to see where the great director lived. All visitors meet Parajanov’s neighbor Zurab, who has many interesting stories to tell. Zurab remembers that Parajanov used to turn their small yard into a stage. “Once Vysotsky was playing and the gypsies were dancing,” he recalls.

Parajanov’s compatriot, phonographer Yuri Mechitov is also a frequent visitor to this house.  “No one knows Parajanov well. He was an unusual man and this was his talent,” he says.

The influential “Le Figaro” daily calls Parajanov a “super talent,” considering him the most gifted director of our times. His name is included in the top 100 of the best directors of all times.
