World Cup 2014: Marco Reus out with ankle injury

Marco Reus has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury in Germany’s 6-1 friendly win over Armenia.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, 25, sustained a partial tear on an ankle ligament and is expected to be out for six or seven weeks.

“For him and for us this is extremely regrettable,” said Germany coach Joachim Low.

Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi has replaced Reus in Germany’s squad.

Germany got goals from Andreas Schürlle, Lukas Podolski, Benedikt Hoewedes, Miroslav Klose and Mario Goetze, who scored twice, to beat Armenia 6-1. Armenia’s only goal came from a penalty converted by Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
