Destruction of the Armenian Church in Deir el-Zor a “vivid expression of cultural genocide”

Vice-President of the Armenian National Assembly Edward Sharmazanov has severely condemned the destruction of the Saint Martyrs Armenian Church in Deir el-Zor, describing it as a “vivid expression of cultural genocide.” Sharmazanov made the statement at the meeting with the Vice-President of the Czech Senate Miluše Horská.

According to him, this is  an extinction of not only Armenian, but also universal Christian values. He added that the “detonation of the Armenian Church is the logical continuation of the destruction of the centuries-old Armenian cemetery of Jugha in Nakhichevan and tens of thousands of Armenian cross-stones in modern-day Turkey.”

The Deputy Speaker noted that the proper condemnation of the Armenian cultural heritage by the international community could prevent the destruction of the Saint Martyrs Armenian Church in Deir el-Zor.
