Armenia invited to join U.S.-initiated Board of Peace as founding member

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has received an official invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the newly proposed Board of Peace as a founding member state, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson Nazeli Baghdasaryan announced.

According to Baghdasaryan, Prime Minister Pashinyan has accepted the invitation with appreciation and a sense of responsibility, reaffirming Armenia’s commitment to advancing peace.

The invitation was conveyed in an official letter from President Trump dated January 16, 2026, sent from the White House. In the letter, President Trump invited Armenia to participate in what he described as a “critically historic and magnificent effort” aimed at consolidating peace in the Middle East and launching a new approach to resolving global conflicts.

President Trump referenced the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, announced on September 29, 2025, which he described as a 20-point roadmap supported by world leaders from the Arab world, Israel, and Europe. He noted that the initiative received further international backing on November 17, when the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2803, welcoming and endorsing the plan.

At the core of the initiative, according to the letter, is the establishment of the Board of Peace, which would function as a new international organization and transitional governing administration. President Trump described the body as the most consequential board ever assembled, composed of a select group of nations tasked with building lasting peace and investing in a secure and prosperous future.

As Chairman of the Board, President Trump formally invited the Republic of Armenia to become a founding member state and a party to the Board’s Charter. The letter states that Armenia may designate an authorized representative to participate in meetings and decision-making processes on its behalf. The Comprehensive Plan and the Board’s Charter were enclosed for Armenia’s signature and ratification.

In his concluding remarks, President Trump expressed hope for long-term cooperation with Armenia toward the goal of establishing “lasting world peace, prosperity, and greatness for all.”
