Italian PM Giorgia Meloni congratulates Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on election victory

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has extended her congratulations to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following his victory in Armenia’s parliamentary elections and his reappointment as head of government.

In a congratulatory message, Meloni conveyed the warmest wishes of both the Government of the Italian Republic and herself personally, noting that the Armenian people’s vote for a third time reflects their confidence in Pashinyan’s leadership and recognition of the courage with which he has confronted exceptionally complex challenges.

“The vote of the Armenian people once again values your leadership and acknowledges the determination with which you have faced challenges of extraordinary complexity,” Meloni wrote.

The Italian leader also highlighted Armenia’s growing ties with Europe, stating that Italy closely follows the country’s efforts to strengthen its relations with European partners. She reaffirmed Rome’s support for the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Meloni described the agreement reached in Washington in 2025 as an important achievement and stressed Italy’s continued commitment to supporting further steps toward a lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

“You can continue to rely on our commitment to supporting the subsequent steps toward the establishment of a final peace,” she said, adding that the normalization of relations presents a significant opportunity for stability and prosperity not only for Armenia but for the entire region.

The Italian prime minister also emphasized the strength of bilateral relations between Armenia and Italy, citing growing economic cooperation, longstanding cultural and archaeological partnerships, and promising opportunities for collaboration in areas such as infrastructure and defense.

“Our countries enjoy strong and steadily developing relations,” Meloni noted. “I am confident that your new mandate will provide an opportunity to further strengthen this partnership.”

Pashinyan’s victory secures him a third term as Armenia’s prime minister, while international partners continue to express support for the country’s democratic processes and regional peace efforts.
