Norway will remain a loyal friend of Armenia and its European aspirations – FM

Armenia is interested in deepening bilateral relations with Norway, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said after talks with his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide in Oslo.

“In addition, Armenia highly appreciates Norway’s continued support for our country’s development agenda,” the Foreign Minister said, adding that Norway has always shown interest in regional issues of the South Caucasus, as well.

“Today, I had the opportunity to present the developments taking place in our region and once again assure that Armenia is committed to the peace agenda and is making every effort to establish sustainable peace in the region and open a new era of peace in the South Caucasus,” Minister Mirzoyan said.

He emphasized that Armenia also attaches great importance to cooperation with the Nordic-Baltic countries, including Norway and noted that the interest is reciprocal.

“We are determined in to explore new horizons in our relations and welcome the fact that this approach is also widely shared by the Norwegian side,” Ararat Mirzoyan said.

Espen Barth Eide, in turn, commended the “good relations” with Armenia, the Armenian people and this government.

“We believe that this government has demonstrated clear strategic leadership for the country, for the benefit of its people in very difficult circumstances, but really boldly and looking towards Europe and striving for closer cooperation. And we are very happy to be partners on this path,” the Minister said.

He reiterated that Norway will remain a loyal friend of Armenia and its European aspirations in all circumstances.

“And we specifically talked about how we can support in a bilateral format, but also within the framework of the Nordic-Baltic group, sharing our experience and seeing how we can provide assistance in different aspects of that path, which is important for Armenia, but also important for all of Europe, at a time of great changes taking place on our continent,” he said.
