On August 24-31, 2024, the 10th edition of the Apricot Tree International Documentary Film Festival will be held in the village of Debed in Armenia’s Lori Province.
The festival will feature about 40 films from 20 countries in all genres of documentary cinema – experimental, anthropological, ethnographic, animated etc. The Short and Feature-length competition programs will include 19 films, some of which have already been presented at the most prestigious film festivals of the world, such as Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam, Amsterdam etc., while others will have their world premiere within the framework of the 10th Apricot Tree. Special out-of-competition events will pay tribute to Sergei Parajanov and Charles Aznavour on the occasion of their centennials, while the 140th anniversary of the father of documentary cinema, renowned American director Robert Flaherty will be honored with a screening of his legendary film Nanook of the North (1922).
This year the festival will have 25-30 local and international participants. The winners will be decided by a 3-member jury, which this year includes famed French-Armenian documentary filmmaker Jacques Kebadian (with a retrospective of his films), Iranian director Mahdi Bagheri and Armenian film critic Sona Karapoghosyan.
Most of the screenings will take place in the village of Debed, specifically in the garden of the “Debatoun” guesthouse and in the library of the village administration building. Admission to all screenings is free!
