Türkiye lashed out at Israel after it recognized the Armenian genocide, branding it a “political” decision to cover its own alleged crimes.
“The Israeli government, which has systematically persecuted the Palestinian people before the eyes of the entire world and is being tried at the International Court of Justice on charges of committing genocide against the people of Gaza, is seeking to cover up its own crimes through the political decision it has adopted regarding the events of 1915,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Türkiye will continue to work resolutely to end Israel’s expansionist and destabilizing policies in the region and to hold the Netanyahu government accountable under the law for its crimes against civilians, particularly the Palestinian people,” the Ministry said.
The Israeli government voted on Sunday to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide, following a resolution proposal put forth by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar late last week.
