Armenia presents its approach to responsible AI use at EAEU forum

Armenia’s First Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry, Gevorg Mantashyan, presented the country’s approaches to the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) during a panel discussion held as part of the 5th Eurasian Economic Forum in Astana on May 28.

The discussion, titled “Principles of Responsible Artificial Intelligence Application within the Framework of Eurasian Economic Integration,” focused on the role of AI as a key driver of digital integration, economic modernization, and innovation-driven growth within the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Participants examined priorities for AI development, effective data governance mechanisms, the establishment of common standards, and the need to develop secure and trustworthy digital solutions. Special attention was given to the responsible and human-centered use of AI, cybersecurity issues, and the expansion of cooperation based on international best practices.

In his remarks, Mantashyan stressed that the advancement of artificial intelligence and digital technologies requires not only the adoption of cutting-edge solutions but also responsible governance and long-term strategic planning.

“Digital transformation is not only about introducing new technologies; it is also about ensuring their safe, effective, and reliable application. The development of artificial intelligence must be based on the principles of trust, transparency, professional capacity-building, human-centered approaches, and international cooperation,” he said.

The deputy minister also highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange and deeper professional cooperation among EAEU member states. He noted that AI and machine learning technologies can play a significant role in enhancing industrial competitiveness, improving the efficiency of public services, and fostering innovative ecosystems.

Mantashyan further emphasized that Armenia continues to strengthen its technological and innovation potential, underscoring the importance of education, workforce development, and international partnerships in building a reliable and competitive AI ecosystem in the region.

The panel brought together senior officials from EAEU member states, including Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Dmitry Moon, Belarusian Minister of Communications and Informatization Kirill Zalessky, and Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, Tigran Sargsyan.

Representatives of international organizations and industry institutions also attended the event, discussing prospects for regional digital cooperation, the application of artificial intelligence, and technological advancement across the Eurasian region.
