Azerbaijan launches criminal case into strikes: Iran denies responsibility

Azerbaijan’s prosecutor general has launched a criminal investigation into this morning’s drone attack on the Nakhijevan region, an autonomous exclave bordering Iran and Armenia.

In a statement, the office said the strike “significantly damaged” parts of Nakhijevan International Airport and “intentionally and unlawfully” disrupted its operations.

It added that an investigation has also been launched into the “origin and flight path” of the drones. However, it said the region was “attacked from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the strike as “an act of terror” against his country and called for Iran to be held “accountable.”

Meanwhile, the general staff of the Iranian armed forces has denied any involvement in the accident and said that “these actions are being taken by Israel to disrupt relations between Muslim countries.”
