Armenia to decide on CSTO future if Russia, allies remain silent on Azerbaijani occupation – Deputy FM

Armenia will make final decisions regarding its relationship with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) if member states, including Russia, fail to issue political statements condemning Azerbaijan’s occupation of Armenian sovereign territory, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan said in a briefing with reporters following the government sitting.

“We are not just hinting at CSTO-related issues, we are speaking openly. This situation cannot continue indefinitely. If CSTO partners, including the Russian Federation, do not issue political statements regarding the attack on Armenia’s sovereign territory – an issue that has been on the table for years – Armenia will make final decisions,” Kostanyan stated.

Asked whether Armenia is preparing to withdraw from the CSTO, Kostanyan responded that the decision and its timing will be made solely by Armenia.

“As a sovereign state, the Republic of Armenia alone will determine when the appropriate moment comes to take such a step,” he emphasized.

Regarding Armenia’s cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kostanyan noted that Yerevan continues to be a member of the EAEU and is deepening its relations within the framework of the organization.
