Armenia’s team won two bronze medals and one honorable mention at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from July 10 to 19, 2026.
The competition brought together 372 students from 93 countries, with each country represented by a maximum of four contestants.
Bronze medals were awarded to Artur Mkrtchyan, a 12th-grade student at the A. Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Specialized School, and Mikayel Aleksanyan, a 12th-grade student at the Vanadzor Specialized School for Advanced Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Meri Virabyan, an 11th-grade student at the same Vanadzor school, received an honorable mention. The fourth member of the Armenian team was Garik Panikyan, a 10th-grade student at the Vanadzor Specialized School for Advanced Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The Olympiad consisted of practical and theoretical rounds.
The Armenian team was led by Andranik Davinyan, a researcher at the Scientific-Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Armen Galstyan, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at Yerevan State University.
At the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Armenian team had won one silver medal and three honorable mentions.
