The Armenian delegation is participating in the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, taking place in Busan, Republic of Korea.
Addressing the general debate, H.E. Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Delegate of Armenia to UNESCO, reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment, as a first-time member of the Committee, to work closely with all stakeholders to further strengthen the implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
Hakobyan commended the efforts of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in supporting States Parties that remain underrepresented on the World Heritage List and underscored the importance of further strengthening the Centre’s capacities.
Referring to the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which Armenia will host in October 2026, Hakobyan also praised the World Heritage Centre’s role in advancing climate action and biodiversity conservation by fostering stronger links between the protection of cultural and natural heritage and the preservation of biodiversity.
