President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has reaffirmed the European Union’s support for Armenia, highlighting the country’s democratic progress and commitment to reforms during her visit to Yerevan.
In a post shared on X, von der Leyen said she was pleased to return to the Armenian capital so soon, praising the country’s recent parliamentary elections as a demonstration of the strength of Armenia’s democracy.
“The recent elections have once again shown the strength of Armenia’s democracy,” she wrote, adding that Armenia is “staying the course on reform and moving closer to Europe.”
The European Commission president reiterated the EU’s backing for Armenia’s reform agenda and closer ties with Europe.
“So I’m here with a simple message: Armenia can count on us. Մենք ձեզ հետ ենք (We are with you),” von der Leyen said, expressing solidarity with the Armenian people.
Von der Leyen is in Yerevan for high-level meetings with Armenian officials. She last visited Armenia in May for the European Political Community Summit in Yerevan.
