Parliamentary vote a new stage in Armenia’s political development – President

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has congratulated citizens and political forces following the country’s parliamentary elections, describing the vote as a new stage in Armenia’s political development and a test of its democratic institutions.

In a statement issued after the elections, Khachaturyan said the vote had served as an important assessment of Armenia’s democratic culture, statehood, public responsibility, and institutional maturity.

“The results formed through the free expression of citizens’ will constitute the legal and moral foundation upon which the legitimacy of state power rests,” the president said.

Khachaturyan expressed gratitude to all Armenian citizens who participated in the elections, saying their involvement reaffirmed that democracy remains the country’s irreversible choice.

He also thanked all those involved in organizing the electoral process, including election officials, state institutions, local and international observer missions, and media representatives, for helping ensure the legality and transparency of the vote.

The president emphasized that elections in a democratic system mark not the end of a political process but the beginning of a new phase of responsibility.

“Ideological and programmatic competition is the life force of democracy,” Khachaturyan said, adding that all political actors should be guided by one overriding objective after the elections: serving Armenia’s national and state interests.

Khachaturyan congratulated the ruling Civil Contract Party on securing voters’ confidence and winning a parliamentary majority, describing the outcome as both a public assessment of its previous performance and a mandate to implement its plans for the country’s future development.

He also congratulated the political forces that secured representation in the new National Assembly, saying their mandates represent a public delegation of responsibility for governing the country.

The president underscored the role of parliament as a platform for statesmanship, constructive dialogue, and political culture, stressing that the challenges facing Armenia require strategic vision and unity.

Khachaturyan concluded by wishing the newly elected parliament productive work in the service of strengthening the Republic of Armenia and improving the well-being of its people.
