Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, leader of the Armenia Alliance, has announced that the bloc will challenge the results of the parliamentary elections, alleging widespread violations during the campaign and voting process.
In a statement addressed to supporters, Kocharyan thanked citizens who voted for the Armenia Alliance and pledged to continue the political struggle.
“I am grateful for every vote of confidence cast for the Armenia Alliance,” he said.
Kocharyan argued that the elections took place amid what he described as “‘”extensive pressure by the authorities, arrests of opposition figures, unprecedented use of administrative resources, and electoral violations.”‘”
The former president said the alliance intends to contest the election results and is currently holding consultations with other opposition forces regarding possible next steps.
“We will challenge the election results. At this moment, we are discussing our future actions with our partners in the opposition camp,” Kocharyan stated.
According to him, the opposition will present its position and plans after those discussions are completed.
Kocharyan also vowed that the alliance would remain active in political life regardless of the outcome of the legal challenges.
“One thing is clear: we will not retreat, and we will not abandon our trench in this struggle,” he said.
According to preliminary results released by Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission, the Armenia Alliance secured 9.94% of the vote, placing third behind the ruling Civil Contract Party and the Strong Armenia Alliance.
