
Israel and Hamas are due to begin indirect talks in Egypt today, aimed at implementing Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
Hamas has agreed to parts of the 20-point plan – including the release of Israeli hostages – but hasn’t accepted all the conditions.
The Hamas delegation – led by Khalil al-Hayya, who Israel tried to kill in Qatar last month – arrived in Cairo on Sunday night.
Israel’s delegation is led by minister Ron Dermer. For the US, Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are in Egypt.
On Sunday night, Trump called for “everyone to MOVE FAST”, adding “I am told that the first phase should be completed this week.”
