The Israeli military has ordered all residents of Gaza City to “evacuate immediately”, saying it plans to operate in the area with “great force.”
In a social media post, IDF Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee urged “those present in all its neighborhoods” to relocate to a humanitarian zone.
He added the military is “determined to eliminate Hamas and will operate in the Gaza city area with great force, as it has operated in various parts of the Strip.”
“For your safety, evacuate immediately via the Al-Rashid axis towards the humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi,” Adraee said, adding “remaining in the area is extremely dangerous.”
It comes after Israel’s security cabinet last month approved a controversial plan to take control of the enclave’s most populous city, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians reside.
Several world leaders have condemned the plan, and the UN has warned it would lead to “more massive forced displacement” and “more killing.”
