Wizz Air, Armenia’s largest airline, will open its first base in the country at Zvartnots International Airport in October 2025. The opening of the base will be accompanied by new direct flights to eight destinations in six countries this winter, further strengthening the airline’s leading position in the Armenian aviation market.
By expanding its route network, Wizz Air will improve the accessibility of air connectivity between Armenia and Europe, offering more flights at attractive prices. Tickets are now available for sale on the official website wizzair.com, as well as on the airline’s mobile app, starting from just €29.99.
From October 2025, passengers can enjoy direct flights between Yerevan and Bari, Bucharest, Hamburg, Naples, Nice, Memmingen, Paphos and Prague.

This expansion was made possible by the opening of Wizz Air’s 34th base at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport, which will house two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft. These aircraft provide a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to previous generation aircraft, as well as a 50% reduction in noise. These aircraft make up about two-thirds of Wizz Air’s fleet, which with an average age of 4.67 years, is one of the youngest in the world.
Since its launch in Armenia in 2020, Wizz Air has carried more than 2.2 million passengers, contributing to the creation of around 2,000 jobs in the aviation and tourism sectors. As part of the opening of the base in Yerevan, the company plans to recruit around 100 new employees, including flight attendants and flight crew members. The expected increase in passenger traffic will also contribute to the creation of around 800 new jobs in related sectors.
Announcing the opening of the base during a press conference in Yerevan, Wizz Air Hungary CEO Roland Tischner noted: “Wizz Air began operating flights to Armenia in 2020, when our first flight from Vienna landed in Yerevan. Since then, we have transported more than 2.2 million passengers between Armenia and countries in Europe and the Middle East. We are pleased to announce the opening of Wizz Air’s first base in Yerevan, which will be the 34th in our network and will allow us to almost double the number of direct flights from the Armenian capital. By becoming the main carrier of Zvartnots International Airport, we will provide almost 1.2 million low-cost airline tickets annually for both Armenian passengers and tourists.”

“Strengthening our leading position in the Armenian market, we are proud to make a valuable contribution to the development of the country’s economy and tourism sector, creating jobs and improving transport accessibility for travelers,” he added.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan emphasized the importance of attracting reputable international airlines to the Armenian aviation market.
“This will not only contribute to expanding the geography of flights, but will also introduce new approaches to foreign business culture in our country. In addition to attracting leading international airlines, we highly appreciate the role of local carriers in the formation and development of the aviation market of the Republic of Armenia. We are confident that the introduction of international experience will allow local airlines to realize their competitive advantages. We are ready to make every effort to achieve this goal,” Armen Simonyan noted.
