Russia, North Korea to sign Agreement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the draft Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with North Korea, and intends to sign the document at a meeting with the leader of the republic, Kim Jong-un. The corresponding order of the Russian leader has been published.

Putin allowed the Russian Foreign Ministry to make changes to the draft agreement that are not of a fundamental nature. “We consider it appropriate to sign the agreement provided for by this order at the highest level,” the order reads.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay his first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years. The Russian President is expected to arrive in the capital to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday.

The two leaders last met in September at the Vostochny cosmodrome in Russia’s far east, but this is Mr. Putin’s first visit to Pyongyang since 2000.
