The membership of Turkey in the European Union is impossible, the Chancellor of Austria Christian Kern said in his interview given to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
He drew attention to the facts that the employees of “Chumhuriyet” went on trial and the Republican People’s Party member Enis Berberoglu has been taken into custody without any substantial reason.
The Chancellor emphasized that the EU is does not depend on Turkey in terms of economy. It is exactly the opposite, Turkey depends on the EU. “Turkey largely depends on Europe and the West. A major portion of investments in Turkey is made from the West”, said Kern. He added that Turkey should take steps to approximate Europe.
